梦 (Meng) | Dream
“MENG XIANG (梦想),” meaning “dream,” is the theme that inspired this collection. At age 17, Tam stayed in a children’s home in Nepal, where they were suddenly evicted. After the traumatic move, she was stirred to paint a picture book called Kitesong. Though her faith was small, over $100’000 was raised to build a permanent home for the abandoned girls. Since then, her belief in the power of small dreams has permeated all her artwork.
The initial heavy brushstrokes represent the determination needed to commit to a dream, while the dynamic downward slant conveys the spontaneity needed amidst unpredictability. The missing second half of the Chinese idiom (成真), meaning “to come true,” highlights the part we need to play to bring His dreams to pass.
“So Jesus said to them, ‘Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew 17:20)
